Events, Shows and gigs , that’s about it !

Sunday was a partial sunny day.. a lot of wind on the square and passing clouds.  Sun.. no sun.. sun.. no sun.

Did miss vampire weekend (argh) . I was too busy with something else (like preparing stuff, drinking and trying to make my way to the frontstage). No Radiohead for me.. some of us were not allowed to take pictures (go figure why…) Anyway, HERE are some pictures !!

Main Square Festival

Been rather buys the latest weeks and Olivier is chasing my ass to do some updates :)
Anyhow gonna make that up to him ..
A few pics I would like to share with you all …

Tokio Police club at one of the nicest concert hall I’ve ever been in being “de rotonde” in Botanique Bxl.

Now a complete different style ,  one of my clients , being Bxl’s Hardcore Band Bloodshot
who performed at the last magasin 4 show ever . A very powerful show , oh and you can
already guess, below some pics …

Back to the Witloofbar.. argh I thought.. not really !! This time I had the right for a correct lighshow (thanks to the light guy by the way). Not too much back light and some nice front light going from white to red and blue.

About the gig itself, I was interested to see them after what I heard on myspace and I was not deceived, ‘au contraire’ I left the room with a big smile on my face. A group to follow !!

About Liela Moss, she moves quite a lot and not easy to get a focus on her !!

The pictures are HERE

The Duke Spirit

I can forget all the things I heard about Arsenal before. Things I that were said at works 2 years ago. The the ban was not so good playing live. WRONG !!! THEY ARE GREAT !!! I had a really good time there. Didn’t shoot that much, I wanted to enjoy the show as much as possible. So, after 4 songs, I did stop …

Arsenal

2 bad things (or maybe 3):

  • Too warm in the concert hall (Never heard of airco ?? )
  • Crappy sounds sometimes (too much echo or no voice.. )
  • Ok.. the third.. a lot of dust..

The support band was also pretty good even if the crowd was not really in it (hip hop). Quiet different from the usual hip hop. I did like the cello touch.

Pete Philly

Anyway, check the gallery HERE for some pictures

Spent an evening in the Botanique where Mr Jamie Lidell and Gotye played as support.
One of the best concerts I attended the last few year , period !
Great atmosphere , Jamie reaching out to the audience every 10 seconds..
He even got security to sing …
The complete gallery , including support online asap …
(sorry guys , I’m suffering a huge backlog )

Here already a shot from the man himself at work

Jamie Lidell

And another one from Support Act Gotye, also on Warp Recordings …

Gotye

I swore to Robin that I would not take all my CF’s with me, to avoid coming back with a lot of giga’s of photos !!

Finally I just took my 8 and 4 giga’s card (and of course my Vosonic). Wanted to do 11 groups, only did 10 !! The hall was already full when I wanted to get in for “Me and My Machines”. So, I told myself: Forget It ! Too Bad ! Hungry?? Go eat something !! A 3€ hamburger full of ketchup.. Never eat such a meal with your camera around your neck.

About the festival ground itself, still as I remember it from last year: Family first !! I like that aspect of this festival. Even if it was bigger than last year !

Revelation (for me) of the day: The Diplomat !! I was really amazed by their performance !! Hope to see them again soon !!

Some pictures of Arid, The Diplomat and Hollywood Porn Stars HERE !!!

Stay Tuned for more pics this week !!

Update: Triggerfinger, Cecilia::eyes, Monsoon and Girls in Hawaii added

Update: All groups done.. check the whole gallery HERE

Pacrock

Spent the entire day at the Vaux-Hall in Mons where 15 hardcore and metal bands showed
the audience what they are made of …
Not the safest place for a photographer to be as the photo pit had to trade place
with a huge mosh pit and people stage diving every 5 seconds .
I even saw a photographer smashed to the ground next to me when someone jumped from
stage right on top of him , hope he is ok …

I shot about 35 giga of raw pics ,so processing them will take me a little bit longer as usual .

Anyway , gallery will be up later on
Here already a sample during the gig of L’esprit du Clan

I really don’t know where to begin… I went there on 2 friends recommendation. One told me: You have to see Sieben! This guy is incredible!! The other told me: Go see Emilie, you will not be disapointed.

And indeed, it was like falling deeper and deeper in the Rabbit Hole !! Welcome to Alice in Wonderland !!

And Wonder you will see!! Beginning with a reading by Emilie herself. Something I believe she do not do every shows. Followed by Sieben (Matt Howden) alias the Violin Wizard (© someone I know ;-)). That’s true, he is really a Wizard: loops, violin, singing! All at ones !! Wow !!

Sieben

Time for a 20 minutes break and after that let’s fall deeper again in the Rabbbit Hole !! Emilie is coming!! The show is quite different from what I expected. So far so good. And what a light show !! I couldn’t resist to take as much a pictures as possible. So much to see, so much to listen to…

Emilie Autumn

And now, get deeper … here

Loud !!! It was pretty loud for my old ears !! But you know what ??? I did like it it !!
First time I saw and heard 65daysofstatic was in march this year. They did support for The Cure. This set was better than the one I saw in Antwerp !!
I still have my ears ‘tuuting’. People are talking to me but I cannot clearly understand
what they are saying (in some way, that’s good :-) ).

65daysofstatic

About the light show itself… argh… backlight (repeat 3 time) and a lot of strobes !
All the things that give a hard time to my poor D200. So I played a game that a lot of photographers know: Catch a strobe !

65daysofstatic

Do not expect wow/sharp/clean and whatever pictures, they will not be..

Gallery is up

Concerts @ botanique and especially the “Witloofbar” area …
This equals bad or low stage light, very limited space to shoot from, but on the other hand ,
Lot’s more atmosphere compared to bigger stages!

Fear Falls Burning played a very short first set , about 15 minutes !
The stage was almost dark and only lit by one blue spot …

Fear Falls Burning

I was quite curious to see Nadja , playing second , and their gig turned out to be a nice surprise.
The same stage light as the previous band , still quite a short set (about 30 minutes)
and both band members almost the entire set with their back towards crowd,
making it again more difficult , but hey , more challenging for me to shoot! .

Nadja

Finally it was Year Of No Light ’s turn and they quickly blasted the room with loud
screaming vocals and guitar riffs , combined with hard red and white light and a few strobos.
